The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world’s leading certification for organic textiles, defining globally recognised requirements for textiles made from organic fibres and covering environmental and social criteria throughout the supply chain.
What it covers
- Processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading, and distribution of textiles made with at least 70% certified organic natural fibres.
- Strict environmental requirements, including chemical restrictions and wastewater treatment.
- Social criteria based on international labour standards.
Important details:
- Mandatory third-party certification and regular audits at every stage of the supply chain.
- Two label grades: “Organic” (≥95% organic fibres) and “Made with Organic Materials” (≥70%).
- Full traceability from raw fibre to finished product is required.
